The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is for people who have never been baptized, people baptized in another Christian denomination and baptized Catholics who were never formed in their faith and have not received Eucharist or Confirmation.
The OCIA is a process of discernment allowing the inquirer the freedom to respond to the teachings of Christ and the Church at his or her own pace. Typically, this process occurs over a period of several months.
Step 1: Inquiry
Monday evenings in November, 6:30PM at the Martha House
This is a period during which you will have time to reflect on the role of God in your life, on your own spiritual journey and ask any questions you may have about the Church. There is no commitment on your part at this time. Registration is recommended.
Step 2: Catechesis
Monday evenings from December thru Easter, 6:30PM at the Martha House
If and when you feel that you are ready to begin formal instruction, you will be accepted into the catechetical part of the process. Catechesis is a more formal instruction in the liturgy, mission, and organization of the Church, as well as practice in developing your prayer life and reading Sacred Scripture. After discerning your readiness together with our team, you will begin your final preparation for reception of the sacraments. Typically this occurs at the Solemn Easter Vigil.
Step 3: Metanoia
Alternate Monday evenings, Easter thru June, 6:30PM at the Martha House
After receiving the Sacraments at Easter, you will be encouraged to become fully involved in the life of our parish and the wider Church. You will have the opportunity to reflect on your experience and to ask further questions.
Special Needs:
If you have physical or educational challenges, please contact the OCIA coordinator. We will do everything we can to accommodate your needs.
For Catholics in need of Confirmation only
If you are a fully-formed, practicing Catholic who has never been confirmed, we do offer a different Program, usually in the spring. You must arrange an interview with Father Sadhanala and the OCIA coordinator to determine if this is appropriate for you.
